The 10th McMaster International Review Conference of Internal Medicine (MIRCIM 2025) was held in the beautiful city of Krakow on 8 -10 May. The organisers were the Polish Institute of Evidence-Based Medicine and McMaster University. Co-organisers were ISIM, EFIM and the Jagiellonian Medical College (founded in 1364), while executive partners were Wroclaw Medical University and Medical University of Lodz. The organisers also partnered with >40 societies of internal medicine. It was truly an international conference with >700 delegates from 70 countries.
Local Polish presenters were supported by a large number of international speakers including a number from McMaster University. Presentations were of an exceptionally high quality. The Opening Ceremony consisted of a lecture by Prof Gordon Guyatt followed by a concert by an accordion trio and chamber orchestra.
There was a major focus on AI in medicine on the first day. On the next 2 days there were mostly unopposed sessions on most medical sub-specialities. There were multi-session presentations on cardiology and diabetes/obesity.
On the morning of Day 1, there were 2 sessions entitled “Young Talents in Internal Medicine World Contest Finals” . More than 120 trainees representing societies of internal medicine or medical universities from 35 countries submitted abstracts. These were assessed by a panel and the 20 trainees whose abstracts had been deemed to be of the highest quality, made oral presentations and discussed their cases at the meeting. These were of an incredibly high standard and the judges would have had a very difficult task in choosing a winner. The remainder of the submissions were presented as posters.
Throughout the meeting there were opportunities for faculty, participants, trainees and guests to interact socially and professionally at lunches and events and enjoy the warm hospitality of MIRCIM and Krakow.
