TSIM held its 37th annual meeting in Taipei, November 29th to December 1st hosted by Dr. Ming-Shang Wu, President. It was attended by approximately 7000 internal medicine physicians and trainees from Taiwan. Most sessions were in Chinese and covered a wide variety of topics. One session in English, honoring a former TSIM leader who had promoted global engagement by TSIM, was chaired by President Wu and Professor Wang-Huei Sheng, Secretary General of TSIM. It featured keynote speakers from ISIM, Dr. Virginia Hood, President, and from ACP, Dr. William Fox, Chair of ACP Board of Regents. Doctor Fox’s address Caring beyond Curing: Empathy in Modern Medicine, reminded all of the ealing value of patient and physician connections. In a space outside the auditorium was an impressive display of approximately 300 posters, all in English, by trainees.
The current and prior leaders of TSIM and University of Taipei met with ISIM and ACP guests at the Gala dinner and post symposium luncheon, providing an opportunity to discuss common issues affecting medicine practice in Taiwan and USA which included workforce strains, increasing stresses on physicians, as well as the growing pressures on the comprehensive healthcare insurance system which has been so beneficial for the people of Taiwan.
All were looking forward to the 38th WCIM in Taipei, November 12-15, 2026
