The American College of Physicians annual scientific conference, ACP IM2026, was held in San Francisco, CA, April 16-18. The three-day conference was attended by approximately 8000 internal medicine physicians and trainees from many countries. The agenda included scientific and practical educational material on most internal medicine and sub-specialty topics for both hospital and outpatient care.
On Thursday afternoon, Presidents and Special Representatives from over 30 national and international Internal Medicine societies and Colleges, along with ACP International Chapter Governors, Global Physician Scholars, ACP Leadership and Officers Emeriti attended the 19th Global Forum, a roundtable discussion with physician leaders on a topic of mutual interest. The theme was “Advancing Internal Medicine Through AI: Global Insights on Clinical Practice and Education”.
On Thursday evening, the ACP Convocation took place, where ACP recognizes outstanding contributors to internal medicine. International dignitaries, new Fellows, and recipients of Masterships and awards were honored at this impressive ceremony. The Global Forum and Convocation, as well as the sessions in general, provided excellent networking opportunities for physicians from around the world.
Members of the ISIM executive committee, Drs Hood, Kolbe, Ceska, Kohler, Opole, Nasution, Bester, and Mr. Huber, attending the conference, provided the opportunity for an meeting of the committee to discuss ISIM matters. The leaders of both ISIM and ACP also had a chance to discuss collaborative efforts for global educational activities.
Another highlight was the ACP-ISIM Joint Session on "Global Care Gap: Physician Shortages in Rural and Underserved Areas". The session was moderated by Dr. Virginia Hood (ISIM President) and Dr. Priya Radhakrishnan. Speakers were Dr. Sally A. Nasution (ISIM) and Dr. Alejandro Moreno.
