The Congress was held in the Poliforum, a large Conference Center in the center of the city of Leon. The Congress was hosted by Professor Ramon Barrera Cruz, president of the Mexican College of Internal Medicine. Approximately 20,000 internists from all over Mexico attended. There were over 100 faculty, mainly from institutions in Mexico but also from the United States including the Mayo Clinic AZ, University of Vermont, and ACP California chapter.
Over the 3-day meeting, there were several concurrent sessions from 8 am to 5 pm in large rooms holding up to 500 people. The social events included a conference dinner with dancing, snacks at breaks, and an opportunity to engage with other attendees. There was a poster session for trainees.
ISIM held a 2-hour symposium with two presentations by Dr. Lorenzo Salazar Diaz from Honduras, one by Dr. Alejandro Cardenas from Mexico and a video presentation by Dr. Claudia Arias from Dominican Republic. The four presentations were very well attended and there were many questions. Dr. Hood made remarks at the inauguration ceremony and presented a keynote address on the last morning of the conference that was also well attended with an engaged audience of internists.
At the end of all each ISIM presentation, the World Congress of Internal Medicine in Taipei, Taiwan, November 2026 was promoted. Dr. Hood also made a short video for social media for the CMIM about the congress, also mentioning ISIM and the 2026 WCIM.
As president of ISIM, Dr. Virginia hood was an honored guest and keynote speaker. She made remarks at the inauguration ceremony and presented a keynote address on the last morning of the conference. Dr. Hood was included in all social events and dinners and had the opportunity to speak with attendees from Argentina, Costa Rica all regions of Mexico, and the leadership of the Mexican College. There were questions and interest from CMIM leaders about hosting a WCIM in the future.
All the presentations were in Spanish apart from Dr. Hood’s and two from the Mayo clinic faculty who also spoke in English. For these sessions there was simultaneous translations into Spanish.
